 Long Shot: A Netflix Short Film   This short Netflix film called “Long Shot” holds the idea of the “what ifs” in this tense situation where a man could face death penalty for a crime that he did not commit. Long shot is a short film that portrays a conflict between a man and the judicial system. He did not commit the murder and the investigators that had him questioned admitted that they were trying to trick him to get an incriminating response in spite of his continuous claims of his innocence. By the end of the short film, the audience can see that the people being interviewed hold to the idea of “what if…”. What would have happened if he decided to stay at home instead of going to the game? What would have happened if he did not make that phone call to his wife? It is scary to think that a man could have been wrongfully convicted into death penalty for murder if something as small as his daughter wanting to leave the baseball game earlier happened.   Interpretation of “Connect” The main character is surrounded by boring and mundane people that are noticeably exhausted and are going back to their homes after a long day in their tiring jobs. She is perceived as individualistic and invisible. She is pushed and walked over as if she did not exist by these other people, so she uses her headphones to show her will to get into her own head and imagination, where everything seems to be spontaneous and different. She wants to escape the boring reality. The lighting on the other hand does favour the main character of the girl as she is lit and more noticeable in spite of the darkness of her surroundings. It also helps back the statement of her being different and not being comfortable in the boring routine: being the small light while everyone else is consumed with darkness in their ordinary lives.   Analysis of enigma codes on “Connect” The Girl protagonist is clearly shy and an introvert. This is shown in multiple occasions: when people push her over as if she did not exist and when this happens again when other passengers go on the bus. She does not respond to the bad manners and, instead, uses the headphones to isolate herself from the loud world. Another sign of being an introvert. Once the headphones are on, it seems that her imagination takes over her.  The other characters are normal people that are, most likely, getting out of work and going home after a long and tiring day. It is a realistic view of what would be seen in a bus at the end of the day. The Man seems to be the only one that recognises her as he pays attention to her until she is pushed away (once again).   Captain Fantastic: Opening Scene The first impression of the lifestyle that this peculiar family follows is that it is mainly based on survival and the separation from civilisation. The environment in the forest is completely natural, without any sign of human infrastructures damaging the natural beauty of the forest. The first shot of the deer in its natural habitat, peacefully prowling between the trees, represents the calm in his surroundings. The camera follows the deer, shakily, which gives a sense of realism that is supported by the natural sound of trees being moved by the wind, other animals further away and the deer itself. The sound is amplified when the animal eats a leaf, oblivious that it is going to be hunted. The animal and the human are shown in the same shot: the deer closer to the camera and unfocused, showing its unawareness and innocence, and the human getting the audience’s attention behind it.
